This is the lively neighbourhood in the heart of the city. Bordered by the Rhône to the North and the Arve to the South, it is distributed around Geneva's largest market square: the field of Plainpalais. Stretching from the banking district to the University, this extensive area of urban life is home to the weekly market and second-hand goods stalls.
There is also a children's playground and one of the largest skateparks in Europe. Around the rue des Bains, the Museum of modern and contemporary art, art galleries, trendy restaurants and concept stores turn this neighbourhood into a place where new trends are constantly emerging.
To the north-west of Plainpalais, the district ends at La Jonction (the junction), the place where the Rhône and the Arve meet. In the summer, this area attracts Genevans who love to meet and relax by the water's edge. Urban and trendy, an eco-neighbourhood is developing with the creation of pedestrian areas and green spaces. In the Southern part, the Bois de la Bâtie attracts kids with its animal park and young adults with its famous music festival.
This bridge is a real work of art ! It crosses the Arve and connects the Plainpalais-Jonction district to Les Vernets. Its name comes from the founder of Rolex, whose Foundation funded the bridge. Completed in 2012, the Hans-Wilsdorf Bridge is famous for its openwork tube shape and the absence of piers. Entirely hanging, it gives this part of Geneva a futuristic touch that attracts photographers and Instagrammers from all over the world.
